Veteran actress Saira Banu has requested the government to allot land for a museum-cum-acting academy

Yesteryear actress Saira Banu has been pursuing her demand for a museum-cum-acting academy in the city for quite some time. It has emerged that she had written to the state government seeking allotment of land when Prithviraj Chavan was the chief minister and held the urban development department portfolio too.

Banu wishes to start the acting academy named after her husband and Bollywood thespian Dilip Kumar to train film aspirants.

A source says, "They were keen on a plot of land at the Bandra Kurla Complex as it is close to their house and be convenient for Dilip saab to visit the museum-cum-academy from time to time."

The veteran actress confirms that her letter is pending with the government for consideration. She says, "Dilip saab owned a plot of land near our house and he had handed it over to the BMC for a municipal park but nothing has materialised so far."

Recently, superstar Amitabh Bachchan had spoken about the need for a museum that would document the journey of the entertainment world.

Tourism and culture secretary Valsa Nair Singh, who was also present at the same event, had revealed that the state government has prepared a master plan for Film City which includes a Bollywood museum, a section for Marathi plays and an amusement park as well.
