Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan and a Singapore firm have evinced interest in investing in a major filmmaking facility being built close to the Rajasthan capital.

"I met JDA officials as I wanted to know more about the project. I am interested in the project and would like to study it more," Devgan said after meeting officials of the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) - the nodal agency for the project - Thursday.

"It will be premature to speak on investment modes," said the star of films like "Company", "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" and "Shikhar".

JDA will develop infrastructure for the Film City project to be built at an estimated cost of Rs.7 billion at Sumel, around 15 km from here.

It will be spread over 800 acres and have all facilities required for shooting a film like permanent sets and studios.

JDA commissioner Jagdish Chandra said: "We are happy that Devgan has shown interest in the project. A Singapore company has also evinced interest in the project."

Singapore-based Scenario Media, which is run by non-resident Indians, showed its inclination for the project two months ago.

"The state government will study all the proposals it receives and decide on whom to give the project," Chandra said.

"For the project to be self-sustaining, about 50 percent of the land is proposed to be reserved for township and commercial arcades. It will create 5,000 new jobs."

An official spokesman pointed out the Film City could serve as a base for filmmakers who wanted to make use of the numerous scenic locales offered by Rajasthan, including the Aravali hills, the artistic havelis or heritage buildings of Jaisalmer, and the forts, palaces and lakes at Udaipur.

Besides earning revenue for the state, it will boost tourism in the state.
