One of the crop of bright-eyed, dewy-skinned young actors to attain teen idoldom and a regular paycheck during the late 1990s, Jessica Alba closed out the century as one of Hollywood's more promising new talents.
Jessica Marie Alba was born 28 April 1981, in Pomona, California, USA. Her mother has a French-Danish heritage, while her father descends from Mexican-Indian and Spanish lineage. She moved to Biloxi, Mississippi soon after she was born, but three years later, she was forced to move back to CA, and then to Del Rio, because her father was in Air Force. Finally at the age of nine Jessica has some stability when they settled in southern CA.
She graduated from high school at age 16, and subsequently attended the Atlantic Theatre Company. With drama and acting lessons under her young thespian belt, Jessica saw the realization of her dreams when she was signed to an talent agency nine months later.
In 1993, Jessica Alba got a part in the flick Camp Nowhere Camp Nowhere. She was originally hired for a short time but got lucky when one of the main actresses dropped out. Jessica, who had the same color hair as the actress, eagerly took over the spot.
Roles soon started to snowball for Jessica Alba. She landed a couple of big commercials-one for Nintendo and another for JC Penney-and she snagged a great reccurring role on Nickelodeon's The Hidden World of Alex Mac.
Jessica Alba's biggest break to-date has got to be the Sci-Fi TV hit, Dark Angel created and produced by oscar-winning director James Cameron. The show has become a big hit its first season, but tanked in its second season, leaving Jessica Alba and her then-fiancé Michael Weatherly unemployed.
Jessica's work in the TV series Flipper from 1995 - 97 also won her some fans. She's big on the big screen too in the flicks Never Been Kissed, with Drew Barrymore and Idle Hands, with Seth Green, Venus Rising, 1995, Paranoid, 2000 and The Sleeping Dictionary, 2002. She also acted in Beverly Hills 90210 and Brooklyn South for a couple of episodes. She has started training in dance and Tae Bo two months prior to the start of scheduled filming on her new film, Honey 2003.
In 2008, Alba appeared in her first horror-film role in The Eye, a remake of the Hong Kong original. In February, she hosted the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’s, Science and Technical Awards. Later in the year, she starred in The love Guru. She has signed on to star in An Invisible Sign of My Own to be released in 2009.
In her spare time, Alba enjoys activities she learned for several of her acting roles such as scuba-diving, horseback-riding, bicycling and motorcycling. She appeared in 'Teen Magazine' in 1995 and various European magazines in the past several years. More importantly, she was just featured in the February, 1999, issue of Vanity Fair.
The raven-haired actress was nominated for a 2001 Golden Globe award, for Best Actress In a Dramatic Television Series. She also signed a contract with L'Oreal as Feria Hair Color spokesperson.
