Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?
One of the most influential people in my life has been my professor, Dr. Gina Ulysse. She is strong and intelligent; she challenges the status quo and is not afraid to affect change. Her life has shown me that it is possible to open doors for myself and succeed in areas that I might have seen as unattainable.
What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you (aside from winning your title) and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?
In 2001, I participated in a production of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" on my university campus in Connecticut, USA. Through that experience I began to understand the universal bonds that women share. The most interesting thing about me is that I have a drive to improve my community, and in 2004 I brought the production to St. Thomas so the people of the Virgin Islands could benefit the same way I did.
What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
It is my goal to help those without privilege realize their potentials. I am currently working towards improving music and dance after-school programs for the youth of the Virgin Islands.
Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.
The Virgin Islands is a small community. It feels as though everyone is family and life moves at a slow pace. People often stop in the middle of traffic to hold conversations. St. Thomas, my hometown, is hectic and busy at times but the natural beauty and the surrounding beaches take the pressure out of everyday living.
List any interesting or unsual jobs you may have had.
I taught a combined class of 4th, 5th and 6th graders and they didn't receive their text books until 3 months into the school year! I worked transporting disabled and elderly people with a local non-emergency ambulance transport agency.
What is your most unusual talent?
I have been a moko jumbie, which is a dancer on stilts in cultural costume, since the age of eleven; I can dance on 6-foot-high stilts.
