Patricia Oliveira

Age:17
Occupation: Student
Height: 170

Patricia grew up in Lisbon-Cacem, a town surrounded by beautiful gardens. She is currently in her first year in the faculty of Sport. She has two career ambitions; her principal ambition is to work as a children’s sports teacher but would like to combine this with the amazing world of fashion. Her proudest moment was when she had the opportunity of doing the rappel, escalada and slide. It made her believe that we can really fly and dream about all the things we always judge impossible. It gave the sensation of freedom. In her leisure time Patricia enjoys Volleyball, step, aerobics, dance (especially the Hip Hop), and listening to music. Her favourite motto is "Each person who passes in our life doesn’t pass us quietly, because they leave a little of themselves and take a little of us. Nobody meets for no reason."

Where did you grow up? Tell us a little about your home town/city, and family.
I grew up in Lisbon-Cacem. My hometown is very beautiful and has beautiful gardens surrounding the buildings. There is one particular garden I like very much, because we always see all ages, from mothers with babies on their laps, to children playing, to old couples walking peacefully. This garden also has tennis courts and a place to ride your bicycle. I give everyone an invitation to visit my hometown. About my family. We are a very close family. My parents Caetano and Ana, my sisters Marlene 23 years and Claudia 10 years old. We do everything together. We are more than a family. We are best friends and when we are in need the family is always present. I really love my family.

What Jobs have you done? What was the most interesting/bizarre?
My job has been my studies and I need to realise that now. The most interesting is what I am studying, - Sport. I can say that I love all types of sports. What I consider most bizarre in my field is rappel, escalada and slides.

What are your career ambitions, how do you plan to realise them?
I have two career ambitions. Fashion and Sport. My main ambition is to work as a children’s sport teacher. My objective is to transfer to them what I have learned and what the importance is of playing sports. To me sport has two areas: Therapy and fun, because those 2 areas together will give children confidence the that will help them in future and in life. About fashion: It is an amazing world. It gives the opportunity to meet new people, cultures etc. With what I learn in this field I can and will apply in my daily life. I will try day by day to combine both of them to be able to realise myself.

What is the proudest moment of your life? (Not including winning your National Title)
The proudest moment in my life was when I had the opportunity of doing rappel, escalada and slide. It made me believe that we can really fly and dream about all the things we always thought to be impossible. It gives the sensation of freedom.

What was the funniest/most embarrassing moment of your life?
The funniest and most embarrassing moment was when I was 12 years old. My pants fell down because I forgot to tie them. Luckily nobody was looking. This happened at the front door at school.

What was the funniest/most embarrassing moment of your life?
My life had a 180 degrees turn and since I won the title I feel more mature and more confident with people around me. I cannot help everybody but I will give my time and try and make a difference in the life of those people I can help. I have more responsibility because now it is not just about me but also all the other people around me.

Tell us about an interesting event you have attended, or a person that you have met.
An interesting event I have attended was the Expo 98. It was a very interesting event that allowed me to learn a little more about other countries and cultures.

What would you like to do, if you became Miss World 2004?
Being Miss Portugal World gave me the opportunity to try and help my country, but if I became Miss World 2004 I will have the opportunity to try and help not just only my country but also the rest of the world.

If you had a personal motto what would it be?
Each person who passes through our lives, doesn’t pass quietly, because we take a little of them and they take a little of us. Nobody meets for no reason.

Give details of any charitable work undertaken?
In the case of the institutions of children with deficiencies and people who cannot walk, society should have more consideration and understand the disabilities of these people, because they have more to offer than we believe.
