Maite comes from Barcelona, the capital city of the region of Catalonia, in the north east of Spain. She has a degree in taking care of children under five years of age, and hopes that one day she will run her own kindergarten. In her leisure time Malte enjoys travelling, socialising with friends, skiing, ice-skating, fishing and riding a bike. Her favourite motto is: "Carpe Diam" which means Enjoy the Moment.
Where did you grow up? Tell us a little about your home town/city, and family.
I grew up in Barcelona. Barcelona is the capital city of Catalonia, north east of Spain. The official tongue is the Catalan, besides the Spanish. My father is a teacher and my mother the manager of an Argentine Restaurant. I am very proud of them.
What Jobs have you done? What was the most interesting/bizarre?
The most bizarre - I worked helping an Argentine cook in a Turkish restaurant.Most interesting - I worked as a teacher in a kindergarten. I love to work with children. I have a degree in teaching children.
What are your career ambitions, how do you plan to realise them?
I would like to become a top model for several years and after that I would like to build or start up a kindergarten in my hometown.
What is the proudest moment of your life? (Not including winning your National Title)
When I’ve finished my first class in the Kindergarten and I could perceive plenty of joy and light in the eyes of the children.
What was the funniest/most embarrassing moment of your life?
Due to my poor command of the English language I once was in Dublin and an Irish friend of mine asked my how I felt, because I wore a handkerchief in my hand. I really had the flu, but I answered that I was constipated and she laughed a lot. But I must explain that in Spanish having the flu means ‘constipado’. Nothing to do with problem of the bowel, which I learned from my embarrassment.
What was the funniest/most embarrassing moment of your life?
I am more popular in my country and I get to travel a lot.
Tell us about an interesting event you have attended, or a person that you have met.
I met Sete Gibernou at a celebrity dinner for raising funds in favour of children without parents.
What would you like to do, if you became Miss World 2004?
To travel a lot carrying out my duties in favour of charities that worked with the Miss World Organization. That would be a great honour for me.
If you had a personal motto what would it be?
‘Carpe Diem’ which means, as you may well know, enjoy the moment.‘Siste viator’ which means stop, travelling in order to have a moment to think and reflect on the meaning of this accelerated life.
Give details of any charitable work undertaken?
All my charitable work was to do with children.
