Cynthia Olavarria

Age: 23
Height: 5'10"
Hair Colour: Brown
Eye Colour: Brown

Interests: As a journalist, I love writing chronicles specifically the ones that involve colors and scent, because that way I’m able to transport other people to the places I’m describing. I also love listening to Latin pop music, ballads, modeling, searching for different make up brands and browsing the Internet.

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?
I would have to say my aunt, because in 1989 our house was blown away by Hurricane Hugo and she had the kindness of sheltering us until we managed to move to our new house. Hosting my entire family showed my aunt’s love and compassion for the homeless. No other act could possibly compare to this!

What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you (aside from winning your title) and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?
The most interesting that has ever happened to me was a matter of timing. At the same time I was offered a contract in Elite Model New York, I had to decide if I was to pursue a masters in college or compete in the Miss Puerto Rico Universe Pageant. The most interesting thing about me is that at the age of 12, I was the co-host of a famous children program called “Contra El Reloj”.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
I would like to work as a reporter of International News, so since I already have a BA in Mass Media, I would compliment it by doing a masters in International Relations.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.
I come from a very tight-nit family of both parents and a younger brother whom I love so much. I remember to be a happy child who loved pets and was raised by my mother, who stayed at home to take care of my brother and I, while my father was working. I grew up in the heart of Santurce, one of the oldest districts in San Juan, known for the kindness and enthusiasm of its people. I used to live in a wooden house that was destroyed by a hurricane and after that we moved to another sector of Santurce, where I still live.

List any interesting or unsual jobs you may have had.
As a child, I did voluntary work at my grandfather's store which had the rareness of being both a hardware business and a collectable record store.
At age nine I was able to manually duplicate all kinds of keys. I learned the lyrics of all sort of latin singers and I even knew who Elvis Presley was.

What is your most unusual talent?
My most unusual talent is that I’m able to speak very fast in my native language.
