Director Mohit Suri is hailed as the master of romance in Bollywood. After two back-to-back superhits like Aashiqui 2 and Ek Villain, films that were praised not just for its content but also its incredible music, Mohit has directed Hamari Adhuri Kahani that releases on June 12. Not many know that the film has been written by the legendary Mahesh Bhatt - his guru and an icon who has made cult classics like Arth and Saaransh. The title of the film is a give-away, it almost prepares audiences for a heart-wrenching tale of unrequited love that is timeless.
Ask Mohit who he chose this to be his next and he swiftly replies, "After Aashiqui 2 became a success, I was given the choice of also directing Dil Hain Ke Maanta Nahin by Bhatt saab. However, I chose to direct Hamari Adhuri because of the depth I felt the script has when it was narrated to me by none other than Mahesh Bhatt. The story has touched my soul and I'm hoping the audiences will also feel the same way."
It is really interesting how Mohit got on board of this film. He reveals, "When Vidya saw Aashiqui, she immediately told me that she wanted to work with me. I thought she was being kind. But she also called Bhatt saab and said the same thing. Aashiqui 2 went on to do very well and one day Bhatt saab called me and asked me if he could write for me! I was speechless. Here was an iconic director asking me like a newcomer writer whether he could write for me! I immediately said yes, who in the right head space would say no ! For one year he worked on it and what shaped up moved me to tears when I read it. It's such a simple romatic story yet so complicated. So pure that it touches your soul. After hearing this story, I could not find myself doing a fluffy, journey romance. I wanted to make this meaningful, soul-stirring romance."
Hamari Adhuri Kahani starring Emraan Hashmi, Vidya Balan and Rajkummar Rao releases on June 12.
