Mohit Suri's next titled Hamari Adhuri Kahani is a film that celebrates unrequited love and the purity of selfless love despite it being perceived as an illicit relationship between a married woman (played by Vidya Balan) and her lover (Emraan Hashmi). The film challenges the age-old conformist notion about love that society has defined.

The film is about the struggle that Vidya faces as she falls in love with Emraan after her husband (played by Rajkumar who is in a way the antagonist in the film who comes as a wedge between their love) disappears without a trace for several years before coming back to her life again.

Mohit, as soon as he heard Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's soulful song Zaroori Tha (he had heard the song much before it became a raging blockbuster), decided to incorporate it in the film. He felt the song captures the pain, the longing that Emraan and Vidya's character feels for each other as they want to be united but can't because of societal norms and values that are dug deep into their heart and mind.

Mohit Suri says, "Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's Zaroori Tha is a fantastic song and I was deeply moved when I heard the song. It has so much romance, pain and love that I was touched. I am thrilled that the song is part of Hamari Adhuri Kahani. It has been picturised on Emraan and Vidya and the pain that they go through in love. The song just fits to the theme of the film and I hope people will connect to it as much as I connected to the song."
