Before winning big boss Gautam worked in the television industry for 7 years. He acted in the queen of soaps Ekta Kapoor's soap operas like Kasam Se and the critically acclaimed family drama Diya aur Baati Hum. Having an experience and knowledge in acting his talent came to the forefront and he was recognized for his strong, versatile performance which gave him the opportunity to showcase his acting ability on the big screen.
Additionally, Gautam has acted in an International Film titled as "Siddhartha - The Buddha" directed by Chandran Ratnam. The movie was based on the life of Buddha and was screened in two languages i.e. English and Sri Lankan language and was released in the SAARC countries. It came out to be one of the biggest box office hits in Sri Lanka and added to Gautam's fan base across the countries as well.
