Giani Gurbachan Singh, on Monday, said that Akal Takht secretariat had received complaints regarding objectionable content of the movie which tantamount to sacrilege of Sikh's religious places as well as Sikh religious symbols which couldn't be tolerated at any cost. Official trailer of the movie is likely to be released on October 2 and it shows Golden Temple, people performing bhangra, playing kabaddi, liquor, turbaned Nihang driving motorcycle and chicken in backdrop of the soundtrack that vocalizes as "Punjab may sabsay mashoor" (most famous five in Punjab).
"Equating Golden Temple with whisky and chicken is highly objectionable," said the jathedar, adding that they had also received complaints of posters of the movie inscribed with Sikh's kara (iron bangle) along with Gurbani and semi-clad women. "We have time and again asked film producers to consult Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee before producing movies showing Sikh characters, Sikh religious places and Sikh's religious symbols," he said. He said they would hold a meeting of five priests to discuss the alleged blasphemy committed by the producer.
Asked whether Akal Takht would seek a ban on release of movie or give directions to Sikh's to not watch the movie, he replied that on receiving all necessary proves by Akal Takht secretariat, they would contemplate such a move. The Sikh high priest asked the government to keep an eye on social media that was being widely used to show Sikhs in poor light and spreading blasphemous material and movies. Meanwhile, he also advocated a dope test for politicians contesting elections. "This practice will set precedents in society" he said.
