Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has quashed rumours that Irrfan Khan replaced John Abraham in his forthcoming film `Jazbaa`, saying that John was never cast for the role.

`We never cast John Abraham for 'Jazbaa'. Those were rumours,` Gupta said while interacting with twitterati during a live chat session for a media house.

According to reports, John was supposed to play the male lead in the film, but things took a different turn when Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was finalised for the female lead. Gupta asserted that these were `rumours`.

"Jazbaa", a remake of a Korean film, also features Shabana Azmi and is scheduled to release on October 9.

Gupta also noted that he wants to bring a `violent love story` alive on the silver screen.

`If I find an exciting script, would love to do a violent love story. Best family drama to me is Mahabharat,` he said.
