Coming from a non-filmy background, Fauzia Arshi, COO of Daily Multimedia Limited (DML) - an entertainment and media corporate house, speaks exclusively to santabanta.com about her foray into film production and how she handles multiple tasks at same time.
You have produced films like Fatso and Bhaiyyaji Superhitt and now you are coming with your directorial debut - Hogaya Dimaagh Ka Dahi!
FA: For me, delayed decision is wrong decision and instant decision is inner voice. Santosh ji and I were working on the script since a year and thought of making it someday. My company - Daily Multimedia Limited have shown trust in me and people asked me to direct it. I gave it a thought and decided to go ahead with it.
Women are generally associated with romantic genre, why have you decided to make a comedy movie?
FA: To be frank, I don't give much emphasis to gender. I am a human first. I can equally make any genre of movie, be it comedy or an action or a romantic. It's about perspective and thought-process. This time I wanted to share laughter with the world, so I made a comedy movie. Next time when I feel like sharing love, I will definitely make a romantic movie.
We have heard that you have written the dialogues in the movie. How difficult or easy writing dialogues?
FA: As I have mentioned, I have written the story of the movie so writing dialogues was only an extension. I wouldn't say it was difficult but it wasn't easy too. I used words and expressions after observing the society closely. These lines are generally used by the people in routine life, so I wanted to show the world my observation through the film.
Talking about music, this movie is a musical comedy and you have composed the music of the movie and sang two songs. Tell us about your love with music.
FA: Music is my soul. I had started composing and singing at a very young age, I don't even remember when I composed or sang my first song. I love to create good soulful melodious music and would like to share my music in the form of the songs that I have created for the film. There are four songs in the movie. I have sung Kabhi Toh Sun which is a romantic track and Maula Maula along with Kailash Kher which is a sufi song where couplets are being taken from the poetry of Allama Iqbal, Amir Khusro and Krishan Bihari Noor.
We all know you have a rich academic background holding degrees in almost each discipline. Tell us why do you get into filmmaking or what had excited you.
FA: Well, film-making is a combination of head and heart and both are required in equal measure to make a beautiful and successful film. My life has taken me on different path and journey where I did different work and studied different subjects, met different people that inculcated in me depth of knowledge and prepared me for what I am doing today.
We expect quality product from talented person like you, tell us what we shall expect from HDKD and plans for future.
FA: Hogaya Dimaagh Ka Dahi is a complete entertainer with fresh dialogues and songs. I would say, it is a musical comedy. I want people to laugh and de-stress after watching this movie. I will be starting my next venture by the end of this year as three script are ready to go on-floor soon and would like to work with Anil Kapoor, Irfan Khan, Parineeti Chopra, Akshay Kumar et al.
