After holding competitions in eight cities, the Castrol Power 1 Throttle Max Championship reached its culmination with the finals being held in Jaipur.
The eight-city event aims at identifying passion and skill among bikers across India and crown the most skillful Indian rider. The event started on May 21.
"I think we need a concerted effort where we get a sports governing body to help us. If Moto GP race can be organised in China then why not in India? If big champions like Valentino Rossi (Italian Honda rider and MotoGP star) comes to India, it will be great for the image of India," said John Abraham.
"I drive a bike in real life too. Whenever I get free time, I drive a bike. I usually go out between 1a.m and 2 a.m. I do go out once or twice a week," John added.
The preliminary events were held in eight cities, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chandigarh and Pune. During the prelims, two winners from each city- one from the 125 cc category and one from the 125-250 cc category were the qualifiers for the grand finals.
"It's an event through which we are trying to connect to passionate bikers. Basically, this is an opportunity for bikers to showcase their skills. This is the first time we have organized it and the reason for doing it in Jaipur is that we have found that Jaipur has a lot of passionate and discerning bike consumers.
So, we thought it's a good opportunity to do it in Jaipur and expose everyone to such a new event," said Shrikant, Vice President, Castrol India.
"It was a great feeling. I have won a couple of national championship motor races but this is really making me happy. I am feeling on the top of the world," said Shiv Kumar, winner.
Besides competing for the coveted title of India's most skillful rider, the two winners in the finals will get an opportunity to become Castrol's guest at the Valencia Moto GP in Spain accompanied by John Abraham.
The winners will also spend a day with the Gresini Racing team and learn more of the nuances of preparing a racing bike.
