The 31-year-old actor has lent his voice to many popular songs like 'Paani Da Rang' from 'Vicky Donor' and'Saadi Galli Aaja' from 'Nautanki Saala!'. "Singles have a purity, there is a clarity of thought. In movies, you get a brief of the situation and then you make a song, in singles you already have a situation and then you compose. 'So I think its more gratifying as an artist, even for the composer, the director or for anybody. Singles give you more freedom," Ayushmann told reporters here.
He was speaking at the launch of his new single by Bhushan Kumar 'Yahin Hoon Main'. The song has been co-composed by Rochak Kohli and directed by Amit Roy. The 'Hawaizaada' actor said he does not insists on singing his own songs as he believes an actor should be different from singer. "I am not that selfish. In fact, the director of 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' had asked me to sing but I refused because I was playing a Kumar Sanu fan in the film and I couldn't have sung it."
"The character of Prem Prakash Tiwari (in the film) wouldn't look good singing in his own voice. I believe the actor should be different from the singer. And that was a deliberate effort."
Ayushmann shot through fame with the hit song 'Pani Da Rang' and feels the number became extremely popular because it had the backing of a film.
''Paani Da Rang' had the weight of the film with it. 'Vicky Donor' played a huge role in making 'Paani Da Rang' what it is today... When a song goes with the narrative, chances of it getting accepted by the audience are higher.'
Bhushan Kumar of T-Series said he will be coming up with more singles featuring bollywood celebrities like Sonakshi Sinha, Sooraj Pancholi and Jacqueline Fernandez. 'Next (single) is coming with a newcomer Gurinder from London. That we are shooting on Sooraj Pancholi and Jacqueline. We are launching Sonakshi Sinha's as well, which she has sung,' he said.
