'Bajirao Mastani' opened to glowing reviews last Friday, with many praising actor Ranveer Singh's performance.
"I met Ranveer and congratulated him. I will 100 per cent watch Bajirao Mastani soon," Varun told reporters on the sidelines of Stardust Awards.
The 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania' star is currently happy with the response of 'Dilwale' which also stars Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Kriti Sanon.
"Response is amazing. Its a family film. I recently went to a cinema hall to see the public reaction and it was amazing. We wanted people to be happy. I personally wanted to end this year on a happy note after doing films like Badlapur, ABCD2."
Even though the Rohit Shetty-directed action-comedy did not garner good critical acclaim, Varun said the genre in itself is critic-proof.
"The genre in itself is critic-proof. It's a democratic country people may like it or may not like it... Our Monday (collection) was good. Overseas our film has done good. As an artist I am happy with it."
The actor is also unfazed by the competition given to the film by "Bajirao Mastani", which also stars Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra.
"We are getting competition from others as well... But I am very happy if they (Bajirao Mastani) do as well as we do," he said.
