The three day series of masterclasses, interviews, film screenings and appearances by some of the stars of Bollywood is taking place from july 14th to 16th at Bafta's headquarters, just off Piccadilly Circus in London's West End, and part of the building will be transformed into Bollywood splendour courtesy of the UK's leading magazine for Asian women, Asiana.
The BAFTA weekend will showcase world-famous stars of the Bollywood phenomenon, and many will travel to London especially for the event. Those who have already committed to being there include, for example, producer/director Yash Chopra, actor/producers Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan, filmmaker Karan Johar and actress Preity Zinta.
As Duncan Kenworthy, the BAFTA chairman has said: "The Academy is delighted to host this exciting event, which celebrates and investigates the broad appeal, outstanding creative talent and unparalleled production values that characterise Bollywood cinema.
We are honoured to bring some of Bollywood's most influential artists to London, to recognise their achievements and to learn from their expertise".
The opening night will see a lavish reception in true Bollywood style, and the reception will be followed by an interview with Shah Rukh Khan, before a screening of his hit movie "Devdas".
Khan has already won just about all the awards the Indian entertainment industry can offer and is now one of the most coveted, and bankable, Bollywood actors of today.
On the Saturday, the activities will begin with a screening of "Kabhi Khushi Khabbie Gham", and its director, Karan Johar, will then lead a masterclass on film direction. Later in the day, there will be a celebration of the work of legendary producer/director Yash Chopra, hosted by one of Britain's biggest South Asian stars, Sanjeev Bhaskar.
The tribute will feature clips from the flicks and live input from a variety of his friends and colleagues. A showing of his hit "Veer-Zaara will round off the evening.
Sunday will feature a screening of "Dil Chahta Hai", together with a question and answer with actress Preity Zinta, and the closing night will put the spotlight on Aamir Khan, star and producer of the worldwide success, "Lagaan". After a screening of his latest effort, "Rang De Basanti" and an interview with Khan, a final reception will end the event with a flourish of typical Bollywood razzmatazz.
