Rishi Kapoor has never been more content.
"My daughter is married. My son is starting his own career as an actor. I'm relaxed and chilled. My wife
Neetu and I have more time to spend together. It's been years since we've had time for each
other."
There's also the excitement of Ranbir's being launched by Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Saawariya. "I'm
anxiously looking forward to Ranbir's first film. He's in very competent hands. We're waiting for the moment
when the old world will see him and respond to whatever talent he has.
Ranbir has a long battle
ahead. I'm a fighter myself. I've been a fighter in the film industry for 34 years. Today I still get work. I'm part
of another huge success called Fanaa."
Fanaa is Roshi's second success with Kunal Kohli. "If I 've to believe what the trade is saying then Fanaa is
one of the biggest things to have happened to the film industry. Which is what I'd like to see more often in
our cinema."
According to this acute trade analyst Fanaa worked because it's an original script. "Hats off to writer
Shibani Bhatija. Apni bachchi hai woh. His father Raj Bhatija is a producer and a very old friend of
mine.
I worked with him in an unreleased film called Maang Sajaa Do Meri where I got to work with
Sanjeev Kumar for the first and last time.
Rishi says he's staying away from both acting and filmmaking until he gets a vehicle worth his while.
"There's an acute shortage of thinkers and writers in this country.
Every filmmaker is assembling
big stars and weaving stories around them. Barring Sanjay Bhansali's Black and Rakeysh Mehra's Rang De
Basanti most of our recent films are a hotchpotch."
He enjoyed working with Aamir Khan in Fanaa. "I told Aamir when we were shooting in Poland for Fanaa
that I had some problems with the second-half of Basanti. He's a good listener and narrator. He narrated a
fabulous story idea to me for a film he's producing. I've convinced him to direct it. He can be a very good
director."
After so many years Rishi Kapoor remains unchanged. "Yes, after so many years there's still a Fanaa. So
many people thought the film was slow boring and implausible. How do we explain its stupendous success?
Mera kya? It's a small role. My role has an emotional impact. I'm just happy to be part of such a successful
endeavour.
