Actress-filmmaker Pooja Bhatt, who is producing the movie, said the 47-year-old will re-create his famous 'Aashiqui' pose with a jacket on top.
"We have a special song in 'Cabaret' called 'Paani Paani'. It is my first item number. Since it is a story of a girl who becomes a big superstar from being a dancer, we had to show her journey through the song.
"That is when we decided to call Rahul for a cameo appearance. He is playing himself in the portion, re-creating the 'Aashiqui' pose with Richa," Pooja told PTI. The 'Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin' star, who has worked with Roy in films like 'Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee' and 'Junoon', said she was initially cast for the 1990 musical-blockbuster 'Aashiqui'.
"Not many know that I was offered the film but I said no because I was busy with my love life. This time, it was my chance to offer him to re-create the same pose for my film. I called him up and he instantly agreed. He was very eager and enthusiastic to come on board."
Roy became an overnight sensation with his breakthrough role in "Aashiqui", directed by Pooja's father, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt. The actor then followed it up with films like "Sapne Sajan Ke", "Pyaar Ka Saaya" and was last seen in the 2010 movie 'Ada...A Way of Life'.
Pooja, who met Roy today on his birthday, said it was "heartwarming" to see the actor in his costume after a long time.
"When I walked up to the vanity van and opened the door, I saw him in his costume and make up. It was such a heart-warming site... Most of the unit, the light boys and everyone know him so it was like a home coming for all of us."
'Cabaret', directed by Kaustav Narayan Niyog, traces the journey of a dancer who travels from Jharkhand, Dubai before making it big as a superstar in Mumbai.
