"No I'm not doing a remake of Johnny Mera Naam. Kuch bhi likh dete hain. There's no truth to this at all. If we're talking remakes then I'm doing a remake of my mentor Manmohan Desai's Amar Akbar Anthony next year for the Tips production house.
That commitment is signed sealed and delivered. It'll star the three Khan brothers Arbaaz, Salman and Sohail in the roles played by Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna and Rishi Kapoor."
David gets into the Amar Akbar Anthony mood after he wraps up Partner for Sohail Khan next summer.
"The project has been delayed because of Salman's dates. He couldn't shoot for a long time. And when he could he had to give priority to Shirish Kunder's Jaan-e-Man and Ravi Chopra's Baabul.
These projects were nearing completion and had to be given priority. Salman had shot for Partner for just two days. We'll finish it next year and move on to Amar Akbar Anthony."
At the moment David is all set to move away from the mirthful mood. "Nowadays everyone is making a comedy. In November I'm doing a film for UTV which is a complete departure from my comedies.
It's a powerful feel-good subject written by Renzil d'Silva (who co-wrote Rang De Basanti). The minute I heard it I decided I had to do it. It takes me into a territory that I haven't been before."
The film's main protagonist is a 22-year old guy. "The hunt is on for the right face. I can't make the film with the wrong cast," says David.
