Sound like Frank Zappa? Naah, it's just a Govinda movie! The music of Khullam Khulla Pyaar Karen, amazingly, in these times of tepid tracks and somnolent scores, actually works amazingly well in the purpose it's put out for: to entertain the masses, classes and everything in-between!Sonu Nigam and Jaspinder Narula actually make for a good team on two of the album's seven tracks, including Tere Ishq Mein Pad Gayee Re (the working title of the movie) and Maare Nazar Se Katari. As with Narula's vocal waltz with Udit Narayan, Bagalwadi Aankh Maare, the beats are peppy, the lyrics raunchy (by Sameer) and moderate albeit run-of-the-mill scores keep the tracks pulsing.
It's with Alka Yagnik, though, that the album hits both, high and low points. The teaming with Sudesh Bhosle on Challa challa produces for some jarring vocal effects, while her work with Sonu Nigam on Bachaalo bachaalo is quite simply, the best part of the soundtrack. Just goes to show what a difference the right chemistry can make! For the rest, Jolly Mukherjee and Sunidhi Chauhan work well together on the title track, while Bela Sulakhe is quite pleasing with Sonu on the riotous Ye Ladki Nahin Banaras Ka Paan.
While the music works well for the stalls, it lacks the chutzpah to come up to balcony levels – and consequently, to rule the charts. Sort of like one of those regular keep-the-money-coming-in moments for everyone, Govinda, co-star Preity Zinta, Anand-Milind and all the singers. Seems this is why we've not heard of Anand-Milind in aeons! And isn't this the same team that put together Dulhe Raja?
