Long after the success of the ‘Carry On' genre in Hollywood, the makers of Lage Raho Munnabhai promise to take you on yet another magic carpet ride, down laughter lane.
After the hugely successful Munnabhai, MBBS --call it a brainwave or the result of Short Circuit -- producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and director Rajkumar Hirani return with Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi in this satirical social entertainer.
This time round they have included Parineeta star Vidya Balan to jell with the irascible Boman Irani. The affable Munnabhai (Sanjay Dutt) is back with his comical sidekick Circuit (Arshad Warsi) to regale the audience.
Cocooned blissfully in their world of dadagiri and no lafda (tension), Munnabhai meets with trouble that goes by the name of love! And the girl he is hooked to is someone whom he has never seen! She is 'Jhanvi' (Vidya Balan), a RJ (Radio Jockey) who appears in her daily radio show.
Everything about her voice makes Munna salivate and he listens to her mesmerised, for hours on end. Munna loves everything about her and wants to marry her!
She knows Munna not as a ‘bhai' but as a professor Truly convinced about Munna's credentials, Jhanvi has a task cut out for him; to deliver a history lecture to her entire family. Munna finds himself in a soup but as always there is the reliable Circuit to bail him out.
He comes up with a plan to sort out Munna's ‘love' problem! Little do they know that the outcome of this plan would forever change their lives.
Call it a historical twist in the tale or what you will, it's time for Munna to come face to face with Gandhiji. Now, what happens when a rogue meets a social reformer?
Your guess is as good as mine.
Meanwhile, there are other interesting characters. Lucky Singh (Boman Irani) is a rich Construction tycoon from Chandigarh and is fond of name, fame and money. His daughter Simran (Dia Mirza) on her part, feels that one's beliefs holds more value than just money.
On the other hand, Victor D'Souza (Jimmy Shergill) is a young man who is trying to make it big and has lost heart in his bid to do so, after loosing the battle.
The refreshing music by Shantanu Moitra holds much promise. Swanand Kirkire writes the lyrics for this born-again story in the life and times of Munnabhai that is set to blaze the screens on September 1.
