'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania', also starring Varun Dhawan, was an endearing love story between a young feisty Ambala girl and a carefree Delhi boy.
Alia says while 'Badrinath Ki Dulhania' is also a love story, the setting and characters are different from those in the first movie.
"The film is not a sequel, it's not a continuation. It's a franchise. It's a different story, it has another person and dulhania with a common thread that's a love story," Alia told PTI in an interview.
The 23-year-old 'Kapoor and Sons' actress is excited to re-team not only with Varun but also director Shashank Khaitan, who helmed the first movie.
"It's great to be back with the whole team. There's not only Varun but also our director Shashank, the director of photography is the same, the sound designer is the same... It's like working with family."
The film is being produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions.
