Eros International has acquired the distribution rights of the Aishwarya Rai starrer "Provoked" for Britain, the US and India.

Based on the true story of a battered wife and directed by Jag Mundhra, "Provoked" is one of the most talked about films of recent times. It earned rave reviews when it was screened at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

Talking about the film and Kiranjit Ahluwalia on whose life the film is based, Aishwarya said: "Her predicament connects with me in ways I never felt before."

The film has a star-studded line up, including Miranda Richardson, Robbie Coltrane, Nandita Das, Rebecca Pidgeon, Deborah Moore and Naveen Andrews.

Eros is expected to announce the release of the film shortly.
