Says a source, "The final script is yet to be locked and discussion between the actor and filmmaker is still on. It is a cute love story, and Salman was enthused by it. However, he has requested Santoshi to tweak it a bit. Once these changes are accommodated, the team will begin pre-production."
This project is likely to be an action-comedy, although there is buzz that it is a remake of a 2014 Korean film, 'Ode to My Father'.
When hitlist got in touch with Santoshi, he neither confirmed nor denied the story. "Salman has certain expectations from the film since we have done some good movies in the past and are going to work together again after long. I am aware of the audience's anticipation too," he said.
Asked if the film is indeed a remake, the filmmaker clarified, "I am not a remake person. I have not done it earlier and won't in future. It is an original script, but not run-of-the-mill, and will challenge Salman as an actor. In a month, we will discuss the script and lock it.
Post that, we will begin casting. Salman and Atul Agnihotri will produce the film."
Salman is slated to begin shooting after wrapping up Kabir Khan's 'Tubelight'. After 'Andaz Apna Apna', Salman did cameos in two of Santoshi's films - 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' (2009) and 'Phata Poster Nikhla Hero' (2013).
Speculation is rife that Deepika Padukone will be cast opposite the star after several near-misses in the past. Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma were earlier in consideration to romance Sallu on screen. However, the makers have, so far, remained tightlipped about the leading lady. They are also eyeing a festive release next year, either Diwali or Christmas.
