`I grew up in Chandigarh which is one of the cleanest and greenest Indian cities. I believe that any macro movement begins from a small step - I try to imbibe environment-friendly steps in my daily life. My house has a garden that I maintain myself,` Ayushmann who planted a tree as part of the campaign at a school in Gurgaon, encouraging students to the do the same, told Mirror. `Gurgaon, which used to be a green belt, is now a concrete jungle and it is important that the youth, who are the future leaders, head the movement to make their cities greener. As actors it is only encouraging to be mobilising it,` he added.
Leading the campaign, OPPO donated Rs 2 lakh to three NGOs - Vidya Integrated Development for Youth and Adults, Doorstep School and Parikrama Foundation, who took part in the initiative that also focuses on encouraging education for underprivileged children.
`My parents have played a big role in encouraging me to stay tidy. You could call me Monica from FRIENDS when it comes to being a stickler for sanitation,` says Parineeti Chopra, who is also the ambassador for the Haryana government's Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative.
`What makes lending our names to this movement important is that a brand is using Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a creative tool to make a change. That's the future and I am glad to be a part of it,` Parineeti, who unveiled a school bus painted by students with positive messages, concluded.
