"Its estimated cost will be Rs.10 million, and the film is likely to hit the screen by next summer," filmmaker Kiran Kant Verma said.
The film is not going to have a big budget like the one in Hindi made by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, but costly enough for a Bhojpuri film.
According to Verma, "Devdas" in Bhojpuri will be a story of love and tragedy as painted by Sarat Chandra Chatterjee in his novel with the same name.
"This will not be a remake of 'Devdas' made by Bhansali, P.C. Barua and Vimal Roy, but a different 'Devdas'," Verma said.
The costumes and sets will give the film a Bihar-Uttar Pradesh rural touch.
"We will finalise the actors in lead roles by this year end," he said. "The film will be shot in Bhagalpur, Varanasi and Mumbai, and shooting will possibly start by March next year."
