Salman Khan's Tubelight also failed to impress the audiences. Then we had Anushka Sharma having a dream run in 2016 with Sultan and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. But all the success vanished in 2017 with the release of Phillauri and Jab Harry Met Sejal.
When it comes to big banner movies, 2017 saw a lot of them like Raees by Red Chillies, Qaidi Band by YRF are a case in the point. They flopped big time for these otherwise successful banners.
Even successful Directors in Madhu Bhandarkar with Indu Sarkar, Imtiaz Ali with JHMS, Kabir Khan with Tubelight and Anurag Basu with Jagga Jasoos suffered the same fate.
So what exactly is the sure shot success mantra for Bollywood movies? One is simply the stars - not the Bollywood stars but one of the zodiac kind. A favorable horoscope does ensure good Box Office run.
But one of the most important aspects of a successful movie is the "release date". All big stars like Salman, SRK, Aamir and Akshay book a long weekend for the release of the movie. A movie might be unnamed but they announce the release date.
Holi, Diwali, Eid and even Christmas weekends are booked by these stars in cahoots with the big banners. Thus other production houses and stars avoid releasing their movies at this time. Long weekends and single release during holidays ensure a huge rush at the theatres.
The other producers have to remain contented with whatever is left. But some get lucky at normal weekends also. September 8 is one of the days when no movie worth naming got released. We had Daddy and Poster Boys in Bollywood genre; and Logan Lucky from Hollywood and Rupinder Gandhi 2 from Punjwood.
Out of all the above, no movie has great star cast, proven director or big banner but since it doesn't have any competition, it is reportedly doing good. Even the content is reported to be good and Shreyas Talpade is heading in the right direction to join a long list of having successful directorial venture.
Last week saw 2 big movies releasing Baadshaho and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan. Both got average collections as they got divided between these 2 movies. Next week is no different with 4 big movies releasing namely Simran, Lucknow Central and Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi. On the face of it, all seem to have a good content but all can't succeed. So which one is going to be? No one can guess. But if only one of three were releasing or one of them were released on September 8 with Poster Boys, it could have ensured both these weekends of September having decent collections.
So whatever one may say, a release date is one of the most important ingredients for a movie to be having the last laugh!
