'Padman' is based on the real-life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist who revolutionized the concept of menstrual hygiene in rural India by creating a low-cost sanitary napkins machine. The film stars Akshay Kumar in the lead role along with Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte. The film is written and directed by R.Balki.
Earlier the film was set to release in April 2018 but citing Akshay's another film 2.0 releasing in April, the makers have decided to release it on Republic Day 2018. Akshay took to his social media account and shared this news. He posted, "Not all superheroes come with capes! Bringing you the true story of a real superhero, #Padman this Republic Day - 26th January 2018!"
