Ranveer Singh's "`83", where he is all set to portray the iconic character of former Indian captain Kapil Dev, has finally got a release date.

The flick will hit the big screens on April 5, 2019.

The official page of Reliance Entertainment took to social media to announce the news as it wrote, "Reliance Entertainment and @fuhsephantom in association with Vibri Media and Kabir Khan Films to release @83thefilm, on 5th April, 2019. @kabirkhankk directed '83 will star @ranveersingh as Kapil Dev!"

The film follows how, under the captaincy of then newbie Kapil Dev, an 'insignificant' team became more than the sum of its parts and brought down the greatest cricketing giants, the 'undefeatable' West Indies. It is about that day, and all the events that lead to that moment of victory, tracking the coming of age of not just a cricketing team, but of a young nation in the eyes of the world.

Kapil Dev, led India to the emphatic World Cup victory in 1983, and in Kabir Khan's film, Ranveer Singh will be seen stepping into the shoes of Kapil Dev. Kapil has been a phenomenon who has inspired generations of people and Ranveer has delivered landmark performances with each movie.

Directed by Kabir Khan, the film will present the story of skipper Kapil Dev and the Indian national cricket team when they left a whole country energised after winning the 1983 World Cup.
