Being an indie film with no major A-lister star at the forefront the film heavily depended on its content and word of mouth. The luke warm opening did not deter the makers, each and every cast- crew member took it upon himself to reach out to the audience either through social media, press or physically push it out on ground, interacting with audiences. Amitosh's hometown Karnal in Haryana has shown immense support with schools and colleges participating in the campaign. The shows are running to full house and the number of shows has been increased as well.
The director, Prem Modi who makes his Bollywood debut with Panchlait has been receiving numerous congratulatory messages from the industry and literary circles for trying out a subject as this in today's day and age. The film is also up for subsidies in a few states and numerous government establishments have also been extending support.
Speaking about the release of Panchlait, director Prem Modi said, "Bollywood is an extremely difficult market to crack with audiences from all over the country, different strata of the society with differing tastes & preferences. To cater to such a wide range of audiences, make a mark is surely an uphill task but Panchlait team is not leaving any stone unturned; even the artists have hit the road to promote the film. The theatres in Karnal are houseful throughout the weekend and the multiplexes in eastern region showing new record. It is doing particularly well in northern and eastern belts. I have always focused on quality content, It is not a child's play to carve a niche in such a competitive industry. But I have always believed in Phanishwar Nath Renu's story and wanted to bring it to big screen".
Talking about the film Panchlait, Yashpal Sharma said, "I am glad to be the part of such a celebrated writer Phanishwar Nath Renu's story. It is always difficult to market a film without top grossing stars and without studio support but time is changing gradually. Content is truly becoming the king now. If you have a good product it will sell. It might take time but audiences will wake upto it. I was sure that Panchlait will have a good run, especially in certain pockets of the country. I would like to congratulate the producers especially for backing a film like this and Premji's vision to bring Renu on screen".
With the momentum created in the northern and eastern regions, the word is spreading fast to the rest of the country. Here's hoping the little David will take on Bollywood's Goliaths head on making records at the Box Office.
