In the previous write-up, we shared with you the history of Indian television and the entrance of top Bollywood celebs tasting success on TV. As we all know, success is a very relative term but in the modern world, it's synonymous with making money. The more money you make, the more successful you are. Very sad but quite true. We can only contribute our mite to change this perception but for now, we shall concentrate on the shift from Cinema to the TV.

Lately what we observe is that a Bollywood icon may or may not do a movie but one craves for an exclusive TV show. This takes you to the masses and makes you immense money. So the latter is a driving factor. It's difficult to even imagine the zeros in the paychecks of Amitabh and Salman. It generally never goes out to the public and remains a topic of speculation and discussion in our living rooms.

The TRPs and increasing revenues of television have skyrocketed in recent times. It's basically due to burgeoning middle-class populace of India with the advent of new industries like internet, mobile networks, banking, insurance, mutual funds resellers, airlines, infrastructure, malls, multiplexes, international brands, food chains, sports leagues, music, internet e-commerce, wallets, et al. They all need to showcase their brands and TV is found to be a medium to do that in no time. Money tap is opened to become a successful brand in no time and nothing does it better than the idiot box.

So which TV channels get the money? The ones who have content or the ones who scandalize news like our notorious news channels. So which is the better way to hook the audience? Naturally, it's quality content like serials, music, talk shows and reality shows. And in all these, cinema industry and its celebs have a direct role to play. They need a share of this huge pie and deservingly so. They work hard to taste success in the cinema industry, based on this success, they get to judge, host or anchor these shows.

Thus it's no wonder that these top celebs are making a direct or indirect foray into television. Some of them are even producing these shows and Ekta Ravi Kapoor started this trend and is very successful. Others quickly followed suit and are raking or in the process of making the moolah. There would be hits and misses in this attempt but all in all, this trend is not going to go easily except for Web Series phenomenon which is going to make the lives of TV channels a little tougher in time to comes.
