Actor Salman Khan was found guilty on Thursday in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case while the other four accused stars - Sonali Bendre, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, and Neelam - were acquitted of all charges.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Dev Kumar Khatri, while pronouncing the verdict in the case that had been underway for 20 years, called the actor a 'habitual offender'. Judge Khatri ruled that hence the actor has been convicted, while the others have been given the benefit of the doubt.
After the conviction court announced the quantum of punishment and sentenced him 5 years in jail.
Salman was given prisoner number 106 and was lodged in ward no. 2 at Central Jail Jodhpur, which houses several other high-profile convicts as well. The security has been beefed up in the jail citing life threats to Salman Khan.
