The rom-com, which didn't get to see the light of day in Pakistan due to some objectionable content, also starred Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania and has been raking in the moolah ever since. In fact, it has already crossed the INR500 million mark which is a big deal considering that it is a women-oriented film.
To celebrate its success, producers Ekta Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor threw a big dinner party just a few days ago and apparently, discussed the possibility of a Veere Di Wedding sequel there, reported Mid-Day.
"Ekta and Rhea may come from different schools of cinema but have always aimed to make films that are distinctive and become a talking point," a source informed the publication.
"With the success of Veere Di Wedding, several people from the industry have been encouraging them to work on a sequel since the film's concept and characters received so much love from the audience. At the dinner, the two had a discussion about the story lending itself to a franchise," the source added.
And that's not even the best part of the news: Rumour has it that the sequel will retain the original cast as the first installment and reportedly take place a few years after the wedding of Kareena's character Kalindi, which Veere Di Wedding was centered around.
Work on the script will take about a year and once it is finalised, Rhea and Ekta will be looking into getting dates of the four main protagonists.
