Noted Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi failed to appear in Patiala court where he was summoned yesterday in a case of taking people abroad for money.

The court however exempted him from personal appearance on request by the defence counsel.

The court adjourned the case to December 15 following certain objections raised by defence counsel and ordered Daler Mehndi to appear on next hearing.

Daler Mehndi's defence counsel moved a personal exemption petition before the court and said his client could not reach here because he was medically unfit for travel.

Patiala police had registered a case under various sections of the IPC and the Indian Passport Act on September 19, 2003 at the Sadar police station here on the complaint of Bakhshish Singh of Balbehra village.

In his complaint Bakhshish Singh along with another 24 complainants had blaimed Daler Mehndi and his brother Shamsher Mehndi for allegdly taking money on the promise of including them in his troupe during foreign trips.

They alleged that the Mehndi brothers also failed to return their money to them and instead were threatened to keep quiet about the whole issue.
