Best remembered for hit films like Ek Phool Do Mali, Intaqam, Mela, Abdulla amongst the rest, Khan later turned producer and director with Chandi Sona (1977), Abdullah (1980) and Kaladhandha Gore Log (1986). Sanjay has won accolades like The Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award in 1993, National Citizens Awards twice, American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin, The Gem of India Award for Excellence in 1993, Honour of Lifetime Achiever Award in 1996, The Millennium Achievers in 2000, The Lifetime Achievement Award by Screen Star in 2009 and so on.
In 1990, he also starred in and directed the famous historical television series, The Sword of Tipu Sultan based on Bhagwan S Gidwani's best-selling novel. Khan was grievously injured when a fire broke out on the sets of the TV series in 1989 and was hospitalized for over a year where he underwent 73 surgeries.
An actor, producer, and director, Sanjay Khan is now all set to be an author with the launch of his debut autobiography on October 28th, 2018. Titled, 'The Best Mistakes of My Life', the book chronicles Sanjay Khan's life on and off the screen. Commenting on the book, Khan said, `The Best Mistakes of My Life is a journey through my mistakes in other words learning experiences that helped me become the person that I am today. No person is perfect and it is our mistakes that make us stronger. I hope the audience too takes to my journey, the same way I have."
