The movie is based on the life of the warrior queen of Jhansi and her struggles and how she transforms from Manikarnika to Rani Laxmi Bai, the people`s queen who leads them in the face of adversity and suppression inflicted by the colonizer East India Company.
The film has an ensemble cast of veteran Danny Denzongpa as Ghaus Khan, Suresh Oberoi as Bajirao 2, Atul Kulkarni as Tatya Tope, Jisshusen Gupta as Maharaja Gangadhar Rao and and Ankita Lokhande as Jhalkari Bai.
