`The idea is to capitalise on Mahavir Jayanti as well as Good Friday, besides Saturday and Sunday. It's an extended weekend with two partial holidays. And going by past records, it's a good time for a big film to release,` said a source close to the development.
The change in the release date also means that the KJo, Sajid Nadiadwala and Fox Star Studios production will get a nine-day unencumbered run, until April 26, when Avengers: End Game, the finale of the superhero franchise, explodes on screen.
`It's a well-thought out business decision to advance the opening,` the source reasons.
The film star Varun Dhawan (Zafar), Alia Bhatt (Roop), Sanjay Dutt (Balraj), Madhuri Dixit (Bahaar), Aditya Roy Kapur (Dev) and Sonakshi Sinha (Satya). The posters of all the characters were released and has left the audiences intrigued.
The epic drama set in the '40s, was conceptualised by Karan with his late father Yash Johar 15 years ago. The teaser of the film will be out on 12th March.
