A Call To Kashmir: Bollywood's Two Cents To Brewing Trouble in Kashmir

For years, Kashmir has been an issue for contention for India and Pakistan due to its status as a much-disputed territory. The haunting legacy has returned yet again, leading to the deployment of armed forces last week for reasons unknown. It was finally revealed that Article 370 shall finally be scrapped, taking away its special constitutional status and bringing it par with the rest of the country.

As expected, social media has been buzzing with instantaneous reactions from Bollywood celebrities after the decision was passed by the center with support from the likes of BJP and BSP.

Anupam Kher proclaimed "Kashmir Solution has begun" a few hours ago on Twitter, while Raveena Tandon stating this historic decision as "A peaceful growth and prosperity for Kashmir, is what we all pray for #prayers for Kashmir and all Kashmiri's"





"Peace, prosperity and sustainable development for the people of #Ladakh and #JammuAnd Kashmir Good Luck @PMOIndia#@HMOIndia #Article370revoked #Article35A," tweeted Dia Mirza in the spirit of solidarity.



Dangal and Secret Superstar Zaira Wasim, a Jammu and Kashmir denizen herself propagated her optimism and assurance with her tweet "This too shall pass! #Kashmir."



While the majority stands in praise of the historicity of these decisions, there was some dissent among people pertaining to the sudden termination of civil liberties and atrocities of the army.

Mahira Khan, in a raging tweet directed at the arbitrators of injustices against the people in the valley shares, "Have we conveniently blocked what we don't want to address? This is beyond lines drawn on sand, it's about innocent lives being lost! Heaven is burning and we silently weep. #Istandwithkashmir #kashmirbleeds "



This response was provoked in the martial law akin decision of deplyment of troops and cutting down lines of communication. Further, former CM Omar Abdulla and Mehbooba Mufti were placed under house arrest. While a certain mass of people may hail it as an monumental decision and a victory for Modi government, the aftermath of the bifurcated territories remains to be seen.
