Kartik Aaryan will be taking over from Akshay Kumar in the sequel to the acclaimed horror-comedy 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa'. The 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama' actor shared the first look of 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2' on his social media account. Kartik will be essaying a ghost exterminator, similar to what of Akshay Kumar's role in the first installment.

The posters show Kartik clad in safron garments of a Tantrik. He is posing amidst skulls and supernatural presence, with the poster saying '13 Saal Baad .... The Haunting Comedy Returns'. There's also a humorous bent to these posters as the actor makes a victory sign with a skeletal hand.

Kartik Aaryan bested his contemporaries Vicky Kaushal, Ayushmann Khurana, and Rajkumar Rao for the role. It is believed that the script is yet to be finalized, the makers have shared the idea with Kartik Aaryan who has given it a yes. The official first look also revealed a July 31, 2020 release and the fact Anees Bazmee (No Entry) will be directing, with 'Houseful 4' writer Farhad Samji penning the script.

Directed by Priyadarshan, Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) was about an NRI (Shiney Ahuja) who calls his psychiatrist friend (Akshay Kumar) for help after his ancestral home starts to experience inexplicable supernatural events. It starred Akshay Kumar, Shiney Ahuja, Vidya Balan, Rajpal Yadav, Ameesha Patel, Paresh Rawal, and Asrani.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Murad Khetani and Krishan Kumar under the banner of T-Series and Cine1 Studios.
