The makers released a few pictures from the muhurat of the film, attended by the producer Boney Kapoor who was accompanied by his children Anshula, Arjun, and Khushi Kapoor. Ajay Devgn will play Syed Abdul Rehman, a formal football turned coach. Said to be the pioneer of modern Indian Football, his reign as a coach is referred to as the 'Golden Age' for Indian football. He coached and lead the Indian team to the semi-finals of 1956 Olympic Football Games, a feat no other Asian country has achieved to date. India also went on to win the Asian Games in 1951 and 1962.
He is joined by the National Award-winning actress Keerthy Suresh, who will play the role of his wife. The film is presented by Zee Studios and Boney Kapoor. Directed by Amit Ravinder Nath Sharma of the National award-winning film 'Badhaai Ho', Maidaan is Produced by Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla, and Arunava Joy Sengupta, screenplay and dialogues are written by Saiwyn Quadros and Ritesh Shah respectively.
