Vidya Balan says she has enjoyed playing a journalist and a radio disc jockey in recent films, a newspaper said on Wednesday.

"The journey has been exciting. The character is so much more than the job it performs,'' the Times of India quoted her as saying in an interview.

"They've given me tremendous job satisfaction at the end of the day,'' Balan said of the roles.

She portrayed a journalist in "Salaam-e-Ishq,'' or "Salute to Love,'' a romantic drama that hit the screens last week. The movie also starred Salman Khan, John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra.

Balan went to a few radio stations to get the feel of what it was like to be a radio jockey before she began shooting for Lage raho Munna Bhai, a big Bollywood hit of 2006.

In another movie, "Guru,'' Balan played a journalist's wife, The Times Of India reported.
