The Guardian has published their list of 'Best Films of 21st Century' and Mr. Kashyap's sprawling gangster epic 'Gangs of Wasseypur' has made the grade. The movie is the only entry from India. The filmmaker also had his opinions regarding the list, as he posted on Instagram " Guardian's list of 100 best film of 21st century . Proud to be here but this wouldn't be my list.So many films which are my favourites can't be below my film.. and `the Dark Knight` deserves to be way up. The number 1 film in the list I totally agree with. That's my absolute favourite of the 21st century. Here is the list https://www.theguardian.com/film https://www.theguardian.com/film/2019/sep/13/100-best-films-movies-of-the-21st-century/2019/sep/13/100-best-films-movies-of-the-21st-century .... link also in bio. P.S. this is also is that film of mine that totally destroyed my filmmaking life by the expectations it sets from me as a filmmaker and has been continuously so, and I have forever been trying to break away from it. Hopefully someday that will happen"
This inclusion is a huge deal for Anurag Kashyap. We all know how the uncompromising filmmaker has burned his back due to slavish adherence to his vision of cinema. His debut feature 'Paanch' is yet to see the light of the day, which we all hope will be rectified soon. He is currently busy filming his short film for the Netflix anthology 'Ghost Stories' with Sobhita Dhulipala.
Co-written by Anurag Kashyap and Akhilesh Jaiswal and directed by Anurag Kashyap, 'Gangs of Wasseypur' (2012) is a two-part crime drama about a clash between Sultan and Shahid Khan leads to the expulsion of Khan from Wasseypur, and ignites a deadly blood feud spanning three generations. The film stars Manoj Bajpayee, Richa Chadha, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Piyush Mishra, Huma Qureshi, and Jaideep Ahlawat in main roles.
