However, Ekta's movie will not have Jai (Jaidev) and Veeru in the lead role, but it will be played by the villain character of the original film-- Gabbar Singh. And this time, the role will be donned by Bhojpuri heartthrob Ravi Kishen, while Jeetendra will play the Thakur's character.
The story of the film revolves around an ex-soldier Govardhan, who later becomes an outlaw, as 'Gabbar Singh.'
"Though the names of the characters are the same, but the story is from Gabbar Singh's point of view in this film. To show the conditions that pushed Gabbar Singh to become Gabbar Singh as the villain. In earlier Sholay, the story was woven around Thakur Saheb unlike this Sholay," said Mahesh Panday, co-producer and director of the Bhojpuri version of the movie.
After claiming a celebrity status in Sony TV's reality show Bigg Boss, Ravi Kishen seems excited to work with Jeetendra. In the earlier film, late Sanjiv Kumar acted the role of Thakur.
"It's about Gabbar Singh's. The story explains how Govardhan became Gabbar. Jitendra, a superstar, is acting as Thakur in this film, said Kishen.
Bhojpuri actress and singer Kalpana has been signed for the role of 'Radha', which was played by Jaya Bachchan.
"They have chosen me for the role once played by Jaya Bachchan in Sholay. I am a bit nervous, I hope I will be able to do justice to the dialogues and my role," said Kalpana at Thekma village in Azamgarh District of Uttar Pradesh, where the shooting of the film is on.
Sholay, a multi-starrer of 1975 with Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Sanjeev Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, was an unparalleled success and broke all records. Indeed, in some theatres, the film ran for as long as one whole year!
Bhojpuri cinema has grown over the years, alluring Bollywood big shots like Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini. And now with Sholay in Bhojpuri, the industry is all set to boost further.
