A mutual admiration society, perhaps? But in the case of Seema Biswas who has won herself a suitcase full off accolades for her premium performance in Water, the situation was slightly different.
When on Saturday Seema met the awesome Charlize Theron (Oscar winner from Monster ) at an exclusive party held for the nominees in the Best Foreign- Language Category, Charlize pulled out all stops and showered the under-rated understated and under-played actress with praise.
Deepa Mehta who was present at the event can't get over the experience. "Charlize just pulled Seema aside and sat her down to discuss her performance in Water. Charlize seemed to know everything about the film. She asked Seema a hundred question about every nuance of her character. Naturally Seema was overwhelmed. It's one thing to be praised at home, and quite another to be given a detailed exposition on your performance by one of Hollywood's greats. And to think I had signed Shabana for the role. I wondered how Seema would cope. She's perfect as Shakuntala. In fact Charlize spoke to Seema about her character Shakuntala rather than about Seema."
Seema is overjoyed by the acclaim that Water has gotten her. "I'm really surprised. And touched. Honestly speaking, I gave Water the same dedication that I give to all my films. Once I sign a film it becomes a part of my life. I make a sincere effort in every film. I try my level-best to live up to the way a director imagines a character. Deepa is one director who knows what she wants and how to get it. I gave everything to Water."
