In 2004, she promised an Indian Idol contestant Rahul Saxena a break in her next film.
This week (after three years), when Rahul got a call from Farah asking him whether he would like to sing for her next film, Om Shanti Om, he surprised her by bursting into tears!
Farah admits that Rahul was "one of her favorite contestants". She says, "I felt terrible when he was eliminated. At that time, my promise to him was an emotional decision made on the spur of the moment.
Talking about the song that Rahul has recorded, Farah says, "It's the title track of Om Shanti Om. Music directors Vishal and Shekhar have been very supportive of my choice.
Rahul is singing the song with Sunidhi Chauhan, Udit Narayan and Shaan. Rahul might get to record other songs too hopefully." Talking about ‘the call' from Farah, 25-year-old Rahul says, "When she called me, I broke down. After she had promised me that I would sing for her next film in the elimination round of Indian Idol in 2004, I never thought she would remember. After all, she's a big director.
Promises are meant to be broken, lekin phir bhi kahin na kahin dil mein ek vishwas tha as she would always reply back whenever I messaged her. That kept my hopes up. Three days ago, I got a call from her telling me that Vishal-Shekhar would be calling me to sing for OSO."
The fact that she remembered, acha lagta hai. I respect her not because she's giving me a chance, but because she believed in me. It's a dream come true to get a break like this."
On another note :
Mahesh Bhatt's firebrand daughter Pooja like Farah does not belong to that category of filmmakers who do not live up to their promises.
When Pooja told Zee's Idea Cinestars contestant Raj Saluja that she would give him a role in her next film Dhoka, she meant it. The very next day, the director signed the debutant for the film.
When contacted, Raj (who entered Cinestars as a wild card entry but got eliminated after two rounds) could not stop praising Pooja.
Raj hails from Kolkata and his real name is Suprabitaa. "But everybody calls me Raj. When I was very small, they would call me Raju at home. Slowly, Raju became Raj," he said.
Raj runs a dance institute in Kolkata, but has always nurtured filmi aspirations. "I made a little money from my institute and used that to move to Mumbai.
I have a rented flat in Four Bungalows in Andheri and love living here. I know it's tough to break into Bollywood, but I am here to stay.
I have got a very good role in Dhoka, that of a cool guy who goes out of his way to help his friends, and I will prove myself.
The other day, I met Mukeshji. He motivated me a lot. I have yet to meet Mahesh Bhatt, though," he says.
