The notion of only big-budgeted films winning the race to big box office numbers does not hold true anymore. The sensibility of the Indian audiences is in a transitioning phase where content is emerging as the king. Even though the films that are high on content do not immediately open with big box office numbers but they certainly win with the slow-burn-box-office effect.

This phenomenon of the new slow-burn box office effect that certain content films which aren't popular, not really art house yet carry mainstream cinema value are being loved by the audiences where they are engaging with its narrative. The word of mouth makes it run strong and have a penetrated reach as it picks the collections on the way to big numbers.

Here are five of the 'gem' of content high films that not only shone with their hard-hitting narrative but also, charted a long-run trend with effect on box office with collections as well:

Thappad

Anubhav Sinha's directorial opened with decent figures at the box office but has shown continuous growth maintaining its stronghold. The reviews are brilliant and `bas itni si baat?` is spreading like wildfire, bringing the total collections to 19.13 crores as of Day 5. Thappad is winning with the rave reviews and continues to grow.

Mulk

Another film that made waves all across for the long-awaited addressal of a significant issue might not have opened big but the audiences rushing to the theatres made it cross 25 crores at the box office. Critically acclaimed for its storyline, Mulk stays as one of the most important films of 2018

Andhadhun

Ayushmann Khurrana starrer created an immense buzz all across but that did not reflect much in the collections. With appreciation flowing in quarter by quarter, the nation was soon gripped by the thriller and it broke records.

Piku

Starring a heavyweight cast of Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone, the storyline of the film caught up soon with the strong word of mouth. It had a decent opening and soon with reviews and appreciation flowing in, the collections picked up- an example of the slow-burn box office effect.

Article 15

It shook the nation with its gritty and significant storyline but that shock only seeped in through, gradually. It grossed over 65 crores and surely, the slow burn effect made this content-high film a huge success.

Content is surely the king ane even though not popular, it does not come as a bane for content-driven films anymore. With Thappad roaring loud currently, the reviews are pulling the audience to the theatres and the numbers are growing!
