Kangna Ranaut's affair with the Bhatt camp. Kangna Ranaut, the latest hurricane to hit Bollywood, speaks about her role in Shaka Laka Boom Boom.

Q: What is special about the film for you?
A: This is my first film where I a play a vibrant role of a singer. The reason why I signed the film is that fact that it is a music-based film and the screenplay is also very good. These are the things that led me to sign the film and make it special for me.

Q: What is you role in the film?
A: I play the central character in the film called Ruhi, who has been born and brought up in America. Though she is an Indian, Ruhi is a modern, practical and ambitious girl and knows what she wants. Ruhi is one of those girls who is extrovert, so basically it is a very interesting character.

Q: In real life too are you interested in music?
A: Yes, music is an essential part of my life in the sense that I listen to music whenever I get a chance. As soon as I reach home, I switch on the music system and even when I'm traveling by car I listen to music. If you talk about creating music then I'm sorry I'm not good at that.

Q: What kind of music do you like?
A: My choice of music is different. I like and listen to classical music, Ravi Shankar and his kinds. I have a huge collection of classical music. I also like to listen to 'ghazals' of Mehandi Hasan or Jagjit Singh. Basically I like soothing or soft music.

Q: In the movie Woh Lamhe you play an actress and now in Shaka Laka you play a singer. Do you find any similarity in these two roles?
A: Well none of my characters has been similar in any way yet. I always believe and say that like all human are different, the characters are also different in all the films. Ruhi is totally different character from Sana.

Q: There has been a total make over for everyone in this film. Is it according to the character that you all are playing?
A: I leave this decision to the directors and the stylists and never interfere with the kind of look I need to be given. When I signed the film, Suneel Darshan saab told me that he needed to change my look.

He told me that my hair needed to be straightened and I need to get into trendy clothes which young girls can follow. He already had a pre-decided image of Ruhi in his mind and I did not mind that at all and I was very comfortable.

Q: Have you done this film because previously you had done pretty serious kinds of roles and now you seem to have a bubbly character?
A: Yes, it can be said that way. But please do not see the film professionally. The responsibility of an artiste is to do good films and good script and not just keeping in mind big producers and big actors. But personally, earlier I had done very intense and serious roles for which I went through a lot of mental stress but in this film there is music and a lively character.

Q: Do you think that this role was easier for you to play than the other two roles?
A: Well it all depends on the actor and how much work you put into doing the role. But it was not an easy thing to do. It also depends on each individual actor as well. If someone else was in my place it could be possible that it would have been easier for the other person.

Music and dance is involved in the film and keeping in mind the screen play it was a relief but not easy. This role was not as complicated as a schizophrenic because Sana was more difficult role than Simran. So keeping all this in mind this role is easy.

Q: This can be called your first commercial film. Do you think the same?
A: I don't think so. The pervious two films were also commercial movies and they even did well commercially. Gangster had got the maximum number of nominations in the awards. I have done every film commercially but if by commercial you mean a masala film with lots of singing and dancing then yes this can be called my first commercial film.

We never made Gangster as an art film or keeping in mind that we would send it to film festivals. Mukesh Bhatt will be the last person to make an art movie for a festival.

Q: Your first two films were solo. Now you have done multi-starrer films like Metro and Shaka Laka Boom Boom. So do you think it is a wise decision?
A: Well in this film I'm playing a solo lead because Celina has a negative role. In Metro there are several stories but the best part about Metro is that there are actors like Kay Kay, Konkona Sen who can be called hard core actors.

So in order to learn the way they act I signed Metro. I learnt a lot of things which Kay Kay showed me like the detailing of emotions which only actors who have worked for years would know.

Q: How much have you grown up since Gangster?
A: Initially when I started I did not know whether the film would be a hit or a flop. There was no tension. But since a year I have started to understand things better and now I have a tension about Shaka Laka as to how well it would do.

Q: How was it working with such a renowned and experienced director like Suneel Darshan?
A: He is an extremely polite and gentle person. It was a very different kind of experience. When I was working with Mohit then the approach was very casual. We used to be like friends, screaming and shouting. But I enjoyed working in both places.

Q: Is it more secured working in the Bhatt camp since they were the ones who introduced you?
A: It is more like a family there. From the day I went nervously to Bhatt saab 's office till now I go there and ask for food and lay out my problems before them. They have seen me grow and nothing is hidden from them. No matter with whom I work with in my life I will not feel the same comfort level.

Q: Will you be working more with the Bhatts?
A: Yes I will be and looking forward to. I have gone through a lot of scripts but not liked them a lot and also I cannot give them the dates that they want from me. Actually after doing such roles as in Gangster and Woh Lamhe, I will not compromise for anything less than that. I have told them I want something better.
