B R Chopra, one of most celebrated movie mavericks of the Indian celluloid scene has been the architect of a golden era of the Indian film industry which created immortal classic like Waqt, Naya Daur etc. With a characteristic vision and great entreprenurial spirit,he converted offbeat storys into the most magnificent movies.
B.R.Chopra is the living legend of Indian cinema who continues to make socially relevant films with a great vision and purpose and of course, style. He is often passionately complimented by the title The Movie Mogul. Today he is one of India`s most respected film personalities who commands high regard in the world cinema fraternity. After graduating he studied Master of Arts in English Literature in Lahore. In the turbulant period of 1938 to 1947 he had a successfull stint as a journalist and author. When tragedy of partition struck, he headed for Bombay to live up to his dreams amidst dispair. He ventured into the film industry as a producer and made his first film Afsana as a producer -director. As luck may have it, the very first movie became a runaway success and celebrated silver jubilee.
B.R. Chopra formed B.R. Films in 1955 with a vision which culminated into a trailblazing celluloid odyssey. His life-long commitment to social themes and family values is amazing which reflects through his classic films. He is one of the founder figures of the Indian Film Industry, who created the golden era of Indian Cinema and enthralled film lovers the world over. First film of B.R. Films was Ek hi Raasta, 1956. Success after success followed- Naya Daur 1957, Sadhana 1958, Dhool ka Phool 1959- his brother Yash Chopra`s directorial debut, Kanoon 1960, Gumrah 1963, Waqt 1965- directed by Yash Chopra and Humraaz 1967.
Come to think of it, half a century ago Mr Chopra made his directorial debut with the Ashok Kumar starrer Afsana in 1951. He had produced Karwat in 1948. Since then he has provided viewers with 33 feature films, three telefilms and eight television serials. Now that films take years to complete, it`s interesting to note that B.R.Chopra made many of his box office hits, such as Kanoon, Ittepfaq, and Pati Patni Aur Who within 30 days. Two of his hits, Insaf Ka Tarazu and Nikaah were completed within 40 days.

B.R. Chopra has for long been the Hindi Film Industry`s senior spokesman and was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian Cinema in 1999. Mr. Chopra has been conferred Doctorate of letters by Andhra University for his great contribution to Indian Cinema. His impeccable personality reflects the glory and vision of timeless wisdom. Mr. Chopra`s larger than life achievements and glorious successes have not, however, taken away his unique simplicity and charming grace. He has also set his sights on the motion pictures of tommorow as he envisualises a future of movies, much bigger and much brighter.
