Bollywood superstar Irrfan Khan, who entertained crores of people in an acting career spanning more than 3 decades and ruled their hearts, is no longer among us. Last night, Irrfan Khan was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital due to colon infection where he was undergoing treatment in ICU. Irrfan lost the battle of life and died in Mumbai today at the age of 53.

The entire Bollywood is mourning after Irfan's departure and many stars including Shoojit Sircar, Anupam Kher, Bhumi Pednekar, Raveena Tandon, tweeted and expressed their grief over Irrfan's departure.

The official statement issued on Irrfan Khan’s passing away read:

“I trust, I have surrendered”; These were the some of the many words that Irrfan expressed in a heart felt note he wrote in 2018 opening up about his fight with cancer. And a man of few words and an actor of silent expressions with his deep eyes and his memorable actions on screen. It’s saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away. Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him. After having been struck by lightning in 2018 with the news of a rare cancer, he took life soon after as it came and he fought the many battles that came with it. Surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about, he left for heaven abode, leaving behind truly a legacy of his own. We all pray and hope that he is at peace. And to resonate and part with his words he had said, “As if I was tasting life for the first time, the magical side of it”.

Tragically, Irrfan's mother Saeeda Begum had also passed away at the age of 95 just 4 days earlier. Irrfan could not even attend her funeral due the naytionwide lockdown because of COVID 19 pandemic. And now, it is really disheartening for all of us to lose one of the finest actors of the Indian cinema making the year 2020 even worse.

Irrfan Khan started his film career in the year 1988 with the film 'Salaam Bombay', after which he starred in many critical and commercial hits like 'Footpath', 'Yun Hota Kya Hota', 'Life in a Metro', 'Slumdog Millionaire', 'New York', 'Life of Pi', 'Paan Singh Tomar', 'Piku', and 'Hindi Medium'. In the year 2018, Irrfan was confirmed to have Neuroendocrine cancer for which he was being treated in London. Irrfan had started recovering some time ago and had returned to India. His last film was Homi Adajania's 'Angrezi Medium'.
